D-Propulse Aerospace Secures INR 25 Crore in Series Funding from IAN Alpha Fund

D-Propulse

In a significant development for India’s aerospace and defense sector, D-Propulse Aerospace has successfully raised INR 25 crore (approximately $2.7 million) from IAN Alpha Fund. This strategic investment marks a pivotal moment for the deeptech startup as it works to revolutionize propulsion systems for high speed military applications.

Revolutionary Technology

Founded in 2025 by Saurav Jha and Ramanujachari V, D-Propulse Aerospace is pioneering the development of rotating detonation engine (RDE) technology, a groundbreaking propulsion system designed specifically for high speed defense platforms including missiles and drones. Unlike conventional jet engines that rely on complex mechanical components, RDE technology operates without any moving parts, offering a fundamentally simpler architecture that promises enhanced reliability and manufacturability.

Deployment of Capital

The fresh capital infusion will be strategically deployed across several critical areas. The company plans to expand its engineering workforce, enhance its computing and simulation infrastructure, and establish essential testing facilities. These investments are crucial as D-Propulse works toward developing flight ready propulsion systems. The startup has already initiated preliminary discussions with the Indian military, signaling strong potential for future defense contracts.

Competitive Advantages

What distinguishes RDE technology from traditional propulsion systems is its operational efficiency and economic viability. The absence of moving parts not only simplifies the manufacturing process but also significantly reduces production costs and system size. These advantages could prove transformational for India’s defense manufacturing ecosystem, enabling the production of advanced defense platforms at unprecedented scale and affordability.

Leadership and Expertise

D-Propulse benefits from exceptional technical leadership. The founding team comprises former scientists from the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and researchers from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras. Adding further credibility to the venture, Dr. VK Saraswat, former DRDO chairman and NITI Aayog member, serves as the company’s chief mentor, bringing decades of experience in defense research and strategic planning.

Investor Perspective

IAN Alpha Fund’s investment decision reflects growing investor confidence in indigenous defense technology development. Rajnish Kapur, Managing Partner at IAN Alpha Fund, emphasized that propulsion remains the most capital-intensive challenge in high speed aerospace systems. The fund views D-Propulse’s RDE technology as a potential game changer that could fundamentally alter the economics of defense platform production.

Strategic Implications

As India continues strengthening its self reliance in defense manufacturing under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, D-Propulse Aerospace represents the kind of innovation driven enterprise that could position the country as a competitive player in advanced aerospace technology.
