Adani Defence & Aerospace has commenced construction on a ₹2,500 crore missile manufacturing facility in Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh — set to become South Asia’s largest private sector missile ecosystem. The project marks a significant step in India’s push for self reliance in strategic defence production.
An Integrated Ecosystem with Wide Economic Impact
The facility will produce missiles, composite propellants, and TNT (Trinitrotoluene) at a single location — an unprecedented consolidated approach for a private Indian company. This integration strengthens India’s defence supply chain and supports the government’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative by reducing dependency on external sourcing. The project is expected to generate around 5,000 direct and indirect jobs and create fresh opportunities for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the Shivpuri-Guna region.
Jeet Adani, Director of Adani Defence & Aerospace, called the project a step toward sovereign defence capability. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav said it reinforces the state’s position as a strategic manufacturing hub, while Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia noted it opens a new industrial chapter for the region.
Building on an Established Base
The Shivpuri project builds on Adani Defence & Aerospace’s existing small arms facility in Gwalior, operational since 2020, which supplies pistols, machine guns, and assault rifles to the Indian Armed Forces. Following successful DRDO trials, the new facility will support advancing systems including NGARM, RUDRAM-II, NASM-SR, the long range glide bomb Gaurav, and the TARA reconnaissance and attack system. Built with automated production lines and high safety standards, it can support multiple missile programmes simultaneously.
Conclusion
This ₹2,500 crore investment signals a structural shift in India’s defence manufacturing strategy — combining integrated production, job creation, and next generation missile capability to position Madhya Pradesh as a key defence hub and advance India’s strategic self reliance.
