Hyderabad Based Aerospace and Defence Technology Firm Constelli Secures $20 Million in Funding Round Led by General Catalyst

Constelli

In a significant development for India’s defence technology landscape, Hyderabad based aerospace and defence startup Constelli has successfully closed a $20 million funding round. The investment was led by General Catalyst, a prominent Silicon Valley based venture capital firm, with additional participation from 360 One Asset Management and existing backer Pravega Ventures. This milestone signals a growing recognition of India’s capacity to develop world class, sovereign defence solutions.

Building Strategic Resilience from the Ground Up

Constelli was established in 2017 by co-founders Satya Gopal Panigrahi and Avinash Chenreddy with a clear and ambitious mandate to reduce India’s longstanding dependence on imported defence systems and build globally competitive technology from within the country. The company began as a software oriented enterprise but has since expanded considerably, integrating robust hardware capabilities over the past four to five years.

Today, Constelli develops advanced electronic warfare and communication systems spanning platforms including drones, ground vehicles, naval ships, and satellites addressing critical gaps in India’s defence supply chain through indigenous innovation.

How the Capital Will Be Deployed

The newly secured funding will be channelled into two primary areas. First, the company intends to significantly scale its research and development efforts in electronic warfare and next generation communication systems. Second, Constelli plans to establish dedicated facilities for rapid prototyping and early stage production, enabling faster delivery of ready to use systems to its clients.

This dual focus on innovation and operational readiness reflects the company’s understanding that cutting edge technology must be matched by equally agile manufacturing and deployment infrastructure.

A Global Outlook Rooted in Indian Innovation

Despite being headquartered in Hyderabad, Constelli’s ambitions extend well beyond domestic borders. The company has already demonstrated export readiness, having supplied products to customers in Singapore, Australia, and South Korea markets known for their stringent defence procurement standards.

Neeraj Arora, Managing Director and CEO for India and the Middle East North Africa region at General Catalyst, noted that Constelli combines deep technical expertise with validated customer relationships, and expressed confidence that the company will play a defining role in India’s defence modernisation over the coming decade.

Conclusion

Constelli’s latest fundraise is more than a corporate milestone – it represents a broader shift in how India approaches defence self reliance. As geopolitical complexities deepen globally, the ability to develop sovereign defence technology indigenously is no longer optional. With strong institutional backing and a proven international track record, Constelli appears well positioned to shape that future.
