Zupee Launches Short Form Video Platform as Company Pivots from Real Money Gaming

Zupee

The Indian gaming industry continues to evolve as companies adapt to regulatory changes and explore new avenues for growth. Zupee, a Gurugram based online gaming platform, has recently announced the launch of Zupee Studio, marking its strategic entry into the short form video content space.

Platform Overview

Zupee Studio represents a significant diversification from the company’s traditional gaming offerings. The platform will deliver bite sized entertainment content through 1-3 minute mini episodes spanning multiple genres including drama, romance, thriller, and comedy. This format aligns with current digital consumption trends, where audiences increasingly prefer quick, engaging content that can be consumed on mobile devices.

The rollout strategy follows a phased approach, with initial availability on select Android devices before expanding to iOS platforms. This Android first strategy reflects the broader market penetration of Android devices in the Indian consumer segment.

Strategic Context

This launch comes in the wake of real money gaming restrictions that have impacted the industry. Zupee, originally founded in 2018 by Dilsher Singh Malhi and Siddhant Saurabh, built its reputation around board games such as Ludo, Snakes and Ladders, and Carrom. The company has already begun transitioning its gaming portfolio to ad supported models following regulatory changes.

The move into content creation positions Zupee alongside competitors who are similarly exploring entertainment diversification. WinZO, another gaming platform, launched micro dramas in August through its WinZO TV feature, indicating an industry wide trend toward content driven experiences.

Future Implications

Zupee Studio represents the first in a series of planned new experiences from the company. According to founder and CEO Dilsher Singh Malhi, this expansion reflects their long term vision for shaping India’s entertainment landscape while maintaining service to their existing free to play user base.

This strategic pivot demonstrates how gaming companies are responding to regulatory challenges by creating alternative revenue streams and engagement models. The focus on storytelling and entertainment content may help companies like Zupee maintain user engagement while navigating the evolving regulatory environment in India’s digital gaming sector.
