Bengaluru based preventive pain care startup Betterhood has raised ₹5 crore in a seed funding round led by Kairon Capital, marking a significant step forward in India’s emerging musculoskeletal health landscape. The round also saw participation from a marquee set of consumer founders Yogesh Kabra of XYXX, Rishubh Satiya of Plix, Rohit Chawla and Sifat Khurana of Innovist, and renowned sports scientist and performance coach Shayamal Vallabhjee.
A Large and Under Addressed Challenge
India is facing a significant but largely overlooked musculoskeletal health crisis. Back pain, joint discomfort, postural fatigue, and movement related issues are increasingly common, yet most consumers continue to seek solutions only after pain has already worsened considerably. The prevailing tendency to treat rather than prevent has left a substantial gap in the market – one that Betterhood was purpose built to fill.
Founded in October 2024 by Vikram Kadam and Neha Zade, Betterhood is building what it defines as India’s first comprehensive preventive pain care ecosystem. The company operates on a core belief that while musculoskeletal decline may become more common with age, a meaningful part of it can be delayed, managed, or prevented through the right combination of products, habit correction, education, and guided self care. Its current offering spans posture supports, orthotic supports, and pain relief and recovery solutions, all designed with the modern Indian user at the centre – blending scientific design with thoughtful aesthetics so they integrate naturally into everyday life.
Building a Knowledge Led Platform, Not Just a Brand
What sets Betterhood apart from conventional pain care solutions is its ambition to build trust and authority in the category rather than simply sell products. Since launch, the company has served over 60,000 customers and built a library of more than 1,000 educational content pieces across platforms covering posture, pain prevention, movement, and recovery. Co-created with physiotherapists, Betterhood has also developed a suite of assessment tools on its website to help users identify the root cause of neck, back, shoulder, and knee pain offering consumers a clinically grounded starting point for their care journey.
Two recent initiatives further reflect this vision. The Slouch Catcher, a posture analysis tool, allows users to upload a posture snapshot, receive a personalised score and an animal inspired posture persona, and engage with posture awareness in an accessible, consumer friendly format. Additionally, The Physio Edge — a certification programme for early career physiotherapists curated and delivered by Chief Science Officer Shayamal Vallabhjee aims to bridge the gap between academic training and real world clinical practice.
Strategic Deployment of Fresh Capital
The seed funding will be deployed across three key priorities – new product development, team expansion across product, content and growth functions, and distribution scale up across both online and offline channels. Betterhood also plans to deepen its presence through physiotherapy clinics, running communities, and wellness retail as it expands its footprint in preventive pain care.
Deepankur Malhotra, Founder and Managing Partner at Kairon Capital, highlighted the founders’ clarity of thought and strong early execution, describing Betterhood as well placed to help shape an important emerging category in Indian wellness.
As lifestyle rooted musculoskeletal conditions continue to rise across India’s working population shaped by how modern Indians work, commute, move, and rest — Betterhood’s integrated approach combining science backed products, education, and expert support positions it as a meaningful and timely contributor to the country’s preventive health narrative.
