Andhra Pradesh Unveils ₹3,000 Crore Aerospace Initiative with Tirupati Space City and Madakasira Defence Hubs

Andhra Pradesh aerospace and defence initiative

Andhra Pradesh is positioning itself at the forefront of India’s aerospace and defence manufacturing revolution with two landmark projects that promise to reshape the state’s industrial landscape. The government has approved ambitious initiatives totaling ₹2,800 crore, marking a significant milestone in the state’s journey toward becoming a national hub for advanced manufacturing. This aligns with Andhra Pradesh’s Aerospace and Defence Initiative of ₹3.

India’s First Private Space City Takes Shape in Tirupati

The centerpiece of this transformation is the establishment of India’s first private Space City in Tirupati, developed by Skyroot Aerospace. This Hyderabad based startup, founded by former Indian Space Research Organisation scientists, will invest ₹400 crore to create an integrated facility spanning 300 acres. The complex will encompass rocket manufacturing, assembly, testing, and storage capabilities, strategically positioned near the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota to leverage existing launch infrastructure.

Madakasira Defence Complex Strengthens Manufacturing Capabilities

Simultaneously, the state has cleared a major defence manufacturing project in Madakasira, Anantapur district. Kalyani Strategic Systems Limited, a subsidiary of Pune based Bharat Forge, will establish a comprehensive Defence Energetics Manufacturing complex with an investment of ₹2,400 crore across 1,000 acres. This facility will house critical capabilities including high explosives manufacturing, ammunition filling plants, and gun propellant units, with provisions for future expansion into rocket and missile energetics.

Strategic Vision Drives Long-term Growth Prospects

These projects align with Andhra Pradesh’s newly introduced Aerospace and Defence Policy, which sets an ambitious target of attracting investments between ₹50,000 crore and ₹1 lakh crore over five years. The policy represents Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s vision of transforming the state into a national aerospace and defence manufacturing destination.

The strategic location of these facilities offers significant advantages. The Tirupati Space City benefits from proximity to India’s primary launch facility, while the Madakasira defence complex leverages its closeness to Bengaluru’s established defence ecosystem. This geographical positioning creates synergies that enhance operational efficiency and reduce logistical costs.

Together, these initiatives signal Andhra Pradesh’s serious commitment to emerging as a key player in India’s aerospace and defence sectors, potentially creating thousands of jobs and establishing new industrial corridors that will drive economic growth for decades to come.
