Amazon India Announces Major Expansion of Amazon Now Instant Delivery Service to 100 Cities with ₹2,800 Crore Investment

India’s quick commerce sector is witnessing a significant shift as Amazon India makes a bold move to capture a larger share of the rapidly growing instant delivery market. The company has announced a large scale expansion of its quick commerce platform, Amazon Now, with plans to extend its services to 100 cities across the country, supported by an investment of ₹2,800 crore.

A Strategic Push into Quick Commerce

Amazon Now, which was first launched in Bengaluru in June 2025, has steadily grown its footprint to include Mumbai and Delhi NCR. The latest announcement signals a far more aggressive growth trajectory. The platform aims to bring minute level delivery of everyday essentials to a significantly broader audience, spanning both major metropolitan areas and smaller cities alike.

To support this expansion, Amazon plans to scale its micro-fulfilment centre network from approximately 300 units to over 1,000 facilities. These strategically located centres will serve as the operational backbone of the platform, ensuring that delivery timelines remain swift and reliable even as the service reaches newer markets.

Cities in the Spotlight

The expansion roadmap includes a diverse mix of urban destinations. Beyond the existing metros, Amazon Now is set to launch in Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata, Jaipur, Lucknow, Chandigarh, Ahmedabad, Kanpur, Meerut, Mysore, and Panipat, among others. This geographical diversity reflects Amazon’s intent to tap into the growing consumer base in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, where demand for convenient, fast delivery is rising steadily.

More Than Just Speed

What distinguishes this expansion beyond its scale is its inclusion of the agricultural community. Amazon has stated that the initiative will facilitate direct connections between over 16,000 farmers and end consumers through its platform. This farm-to-doorstep model not only benefits consumers through fresher produce but also provides farmers with wider market access and potentially better returns.

Amazon Now’s product catalogue spans groceries, fresh food, personal care, fashion and beauty products, small appliances, baby and pet supplies, and health supplements — positioning it as a comprehensive daily needs platform.

Competing in a Crowded Market

The quick commerce space in India is fiercely competitive. Amazon Now enters this broader battlefield against well established rivals including Blinkit, Zepto, Swiggy Instamart, Flipkart Minutes, and JioMart. Each of these platforms has built considerable brand loyalty and operational depth over the past few years.

Nevertheless, Amazon’s financial strength, extensive logistics network, and established consumer trust give it a distinct competitive advantage. The ₹2,800 crore investment underscores the company’s long term commitment to this segment, signalling that it views quick commerce not as a peripheral offering but as a core pillar of its India strategy.
