Meta Introduces “Seller,” a Purpose-Built App for Facebook Marketplace Merchants

Meta introduced Seller on July 24, 2026, a standalone application built specifically for individuals who sell frequently on Facebook Marketplace. Available now on the App Store for U.S. users aged 18 and older, the app aims to give high volume sellers dedicated tools for managing listings, buyer communication, and sales performance, separate from the main Facebook experience. The launch comes as Marketplace marks its tenth anniversary, having grown into a platform hosting more than 430 million monthly listings.

Why Meta Built a Separate App

Marketplace has evolved well beyond casual, one off sales. For many users, it now functions as a genuine income source or small business channel. Managing that volume within the standard Facebook app, however, has remained cumbersome, with listings, messages, and performance data scattered across a general purpose interface. Seller addresses this gap by centralizing the seller specific workflow into one focused tool.

What the App Offers

Seller includes AI-assisted listing creation, where uploading photos prompts Meta AI to generate titles, descriptions, pricing suggestions, and categories. A bulk listing feature allows multiple items to be published simultaneously. The app also features a unified inbox that threads buyer conversations by item, along with performance insights covering views, clicks, and completed sales.

Part of a Broader Platform Update

Seller’s release coincides with two other Meta updates: a free, selfie based identity verification system called Facebook Verified, rolling out across Dating, Marketplace, and Groups, and an experimental immersive full screen video interface being tested in select international markets. Together, these updates reflect Meta’s ongoing strategy of unbundling Facebook into purpose built apps, following recent launches like Forum and Pocket.

How Seller Works: A Quick Guide

What is Seller? Seller is a companion app to Facebook Marketplace designed for frequent sellers, offering dedicated tools not available in the standard Facebook app.

How does it sync with Marketplace? Existing listings, messages, and selling history carry over automatically when a seller joins Seller. Listings created within the app are also automatically published to Marketplace, where buyers already shop.

How do I create a listing? Upload product photos; Meta AI generates the title, description, price suggestion, and category automatically.

Can I still use Marketplace directly? Yes. Seller is optional and supplements, rather than replaces, the existing Marketplace experience within Facebook.

What’s Next

Meta is testing a web experience for sellers who download the Seller app, with further platform expansion expected over time. The company has indicated the app will continue evolving based on seller feedback, suggesting further feature updates are likely in the coming months.
