Amazon, Meesho, Eternal, Swiggy and Zepto Establish Digital Commerce Coalition to Advance India’s E-Commerce Policy Framework

India’s digital commerce landscape has taken a significant institutional step forward with the launch of the Digital Commerce Coalition, an industry led body bringing together five of the country’s leading platforms Amazon, Meesho, Eternal, Swiggy, and Zepto. Announced on Monday, the coalition aims to address issues such as consumer trust, responsible innovation, economic participation, and sustainable growth across the digital economy.

A Focused Mandate

Unlike broader technology advocacy bodies such as the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI), the Alliance of Digital India Foundation (ADIF), and the Startup Policy Forum (SPF), the Digital Commerce Coalition is specifically oriented toward the digital commerce sector. The platform will serve as a forum for stakeholder engagement, policy discussions, research, and knowledge sharing. It will also focus on customer experience, opportunities for entrepreneurs and small businesses, supply chains, and delivery partners.

Public policy consulting firm Koan Advisory Group will serve as the coalition’s secretariat, supporting its research activities and stakeholder engagement efforts.

Why This Coalition Matters

India’s digital commerce sector is expanding, driven by rising internet penetration, growing adoption in smaller cities, evolving business models, and increasing participation from businesses of various sizes. These developments bring with them challenges around consumer trust, sustainable growth, and supporting delivery partners and small businesses across the digital economy.

The coalition’s member companies have publicly acknowledged the sector’s evolving priorities. Rachit Ranjan, Chief Policy Officer at Zepto, noted that industry-wide collaboration could help address issues related to MSME access, supply chains, and consumer trust. Prachi Bhuchar, Head of Public Policy at Meesho, highlighted that digital commerce has helped create entrepreneurship opportunities, particularly for small businesses and underserved markets. Dr. Jaskiran Bedi, Head of Public Policy at Eternal, noted that digital commerce is making everyday consumption more convenient while enabling new avenues of livelihood and entrepreneurship for millions.

Notable Absence and What Lies Ahead

Flipkart does not appear to be part of the coalition. The coalition joins a growing list of industry advocacy groups in India’s technology ecosystem, distinguished by its specific focus on digital commerce rather than the broader internet and technology sector.

The coalition’s ability to drive meaningful engagement on its stated priorities of consumer trust, responsible innovation, economic participation, and sustainable growth will determine its significance in India’s evolving digital commerce policy landscape.
