Pranos Fusion Closes $6.8 Million Seed Round Led by pi Ventures and Ankur Capital

Pranos Fusion

India’s deep tech landscape has witnessed a significant milestone as Pranos Fusion, a Bengaluru based fusion energy startup, successfully closed a $6.8 million seed funding round. Co-led by pi Ventures and Ankur Capital, the round also saw participation from existing investor Industrial47 and a constellation of prominent angel investors, including Groww co-founder Lalit Keshre, the founders of Razorpay, and Bhukhanwala Industries. The raise, equivalent to approximately ₹63 crore, signals a growing investor conviction in India’s capacity to contribute meaningfully to one of science’s most ambitious pursuits — commercially viable nuclear fusion.

A Vision Rooted in Engineering Precision

Established in May 2024 by Shaurya Kaushal and Roshan George, Pranos Fusion is developing compact magnetic confinement systems designed for stable, long pulse plasma operation. At the heart of its approach lies an integrated fusion development stack comprising three core pillars: JENGA, a software platform for reactor design and plasma control; PRAGYA, a compact tokamak reactor platform; and MAGGA, a high temperature superconducting (HTS) magnet programme. Together, these components represent a vertically integrated approach to fusion development — one that seeks to reduce both the physical footprint and financial cost of building a fusion power plant through a low aspect ratio, compact reactor design.

Strategic Deployment of Capital

The seed proceeds will be channelled into several critical areas: continued advancement of HTS magnet systems, further development of software driven design and control capabilities, expansion of the core team, and the establishment of dedicated testing facilities. Each investment priority reflects the company’s methodology of building the foundational infrastructure required to accelerate fusion commercialisation, rather than pursuing a single technological breakthrough in isolation.

Institutional Collaboration and Global Ambition

Pranos Fusion is actively collaborating with leading Indian research institutions, including the Institute for Plasma Research and the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research. The company is also engaged with ITER, the international fusion programme, lending its work a degree of global credibility and scientific rigour. These partnerships position Pranos not merely as a startup chasing capital, but as a serious research driven enterprise with deep institutional roots.

India’s Moment in the Fusion Race

With global electricity consumption projected to grow by nearly 20 percent before the close of this decade, the urgency for clean, baseload energy solutions has never been greater. Globally, players such as Commonwealth Fusion Systems are actively racing to commercialise tokamak based fusion. Pranos Fusion distinguishes itself through its compact, low aspect ratio design philosophy, aiming to deliver fusion energy at significantly reduced scale and cost. The company’s emergence represents India’s earliest and most deliberate step into the global fusion race — one driven not by imitation, but by indigenous engineering ambition.
