In a significant development for India’s EdTech sector, SpeakX has successfully closed a $16 million Pre Series B funding round, with WestBridge Capital taking the lead investor position. The round attracted participation from prominent venture capital firms Elevation Capital and Goodwater Capital, alongside strategic angel investors Ronnie Screwvala of upGrad and Shyamal Anadkat of OpenAI.
Remarkable Growth Trajectory
The Gurugram-headquartered platform has demonstrated exceptional business performance since its strategic repositioning. SpeakX now serves over one million monthly active learners and has built a subscriber base exceeding 200,000 paid users. The company’s financial metrics are equally impressive, with annual recurring revenue reaching $7.5 million while maintaining profitability. Since achieving EBITDA-positive status in April 2025, the platform has generated monthly profits of $150,000.
Strategic Transformation
The company’s journey reflects a bold strategic pivot from its previous avatar as Yellow Class, a platform focused on extracurricular activities for children. This transformation, executed in January 2024 following post pandemic market challenges, repositioned the business to address a critical market need in spoken English education through artificial intelligence.
Founder and CEO Arpit Mittal acknowledged the challenges inherent in this transformation, noting that the company commenced operations with zero revenue and prioritized achieving profitability before seeking external capital.
Technology Driven Solution
SpeakX’s platform leverages generative AI to deliver personalized English language instruction through simulated real world scenarios. The system provides learners with practical experience in various contexts, from professional interviews to workplace communications, while offering immediate feedback and adjustable complexity levels.
Future Roadmap
The fresh capital infusion will support several strategic initiatives. The company plans to enhance its underlying AI infrastructure, expand its technical and operational teams, and crucially, introduce support for multiple regional languages including Telugu, Tamil, Marathi, and Bengali. This expansion addresses a significant market opportunity, given that approximately 70 percent of current users are Hindi speakers.
The funding round values SpeakX at $66 million post-money, representing substantial appreciation from its $25 million valuation during its 2021 fundraise as Yellow Class. This growth trajectory underscores investor confidence in AI-powered solutions addressing language barriers in emerging markets.
