Altum Credo Home Finance has secured ₹170 crore in fresh equity capital from British International Investment (BII), strengthening its position to expand affordable housing finance solutions across India. This strategic funding enables Altum Credo to accelerate its mission of expanding access to housing finance for India’s underserved communities.
Innovative Business Model and Growth Performance
Altum Credo’s business model addresses a critical gap in India’s financial ecosystem by serving individuals with informal or semi formal income streams in urban and semi urban areas. This demographic traditionally faces challenges accessing conventional banking services due to documentation requirements and income verification processes.
The company’s approach combines technological innovation with localized operations, enabling efficient loan processing while maintaining strong customer relationships. This hybrid model has proven effective in reaching previously underbanked populations across six states.
The investment comes at a time when Altum Credo is demonstrating robust financial performance. In FY24, the company achieved remarkable growth with revenue increasing 67% to ₹112.87 crore. More significantly, profitability more than doubled to ₹20 crore, indicating strong operational efficiency and sustainable unit economics. Since its inception in 2016, Altum Credo has successfully served over 15,000 customers while building assets under management exceeding ₹1,000 crore.
Strategic Expansion and Market Impact
The fresh capital injection will primarily strengthen Altum Credo’s balance sheet, enabling expansion into southern and western Indian markets. This geographical diversification strategy aligns with BII’s development finance objectives of promoting inclusive economic growth.
BII’s investment philosophy emphasizes supporting businesses that deliver measurable social impact alongside financial returns. Altum Credo’s focus on enabling homeownership for low-income households, particularly women borrowers, exemplifies this dual purpose approach.
Future Outlook
This transaction underscores the growing investor confidence in India’s affordable housing finance sector. As urbanization accelerates and income levels rise, demand for accessible housing finance solutions continues expanding, positioning companies like Altum Credo at the forefront of this transformation.
