The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting’s startup accelerator platform, WaveX, has unveiled a transformative expansion plan that will significantly strengthen India’s creative technology ecosystem. The initiative introduces seven new incubation centers strategically positioned across the country to support emerging enterprises in Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics (AVGC), and Extended Reality (XR) sectors.
Strategic Geographic Distribution
These state of the art facilities will be established at prestigious educational institutions, ensuring access to academic resources and talent pools. The centers will operate from Indian Institute of Mass Communication campuses in Delhi, Jammu, Dhenkanal in Odisha, Kottayam in Kerala, and Amravati in Maharashtra. Additionally, specialized facilities will be housed at the Film and Television Institute of India in Pune and the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute in Kolkata. This expansion complements WaveX’s existing flagship center at the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies in Mumbai.
Comprehensive Support Framework
Each incubation center will accommodate 15 startups in its inaugural batch, offering a structured program with a monthly participation fee of ₹8,500 plus applicable GST. This accessible pricing model ensures that innovative startups across various economic backgrounds can participate in the program.
The centers are designed to provide comprehensive support for content creation across multiple domains including film production, gaming development, and immersive media technologies. Participating startups will gain access to advanced production tools, industry networking opportunities, and strategic mentorship programs that meet global standards.
