Indian performance footwear startup RARA Barefoot has completed a $500,000 pre seed funding round, marking a significant milestone in the emerging barefoot sneaker segment. The oversubscribed investment round drew substantial interest from accomplished entrepreneurs and executives representing leading technology and investment firms.
Strategic Investor Backing
The funding round witnessed participation from senior leadership and founders associated with prominent organizations including Zomato, Urban Company, Tata 1mg, Shyft, and HexaHealth. Additionally, Managing Directors and Partners from ChrysCapital and Boston Consulting Group contributed to the investment, bringing valuable strategic expertise to the venture.
Company Vision and Product Innovation
Established in 2024 by entrepreneurs Varun Mimani and Manas Tripathi, RARA Barefoot represents a fresh approach to performance footwear design in India. The company’s philosophy centers on biomechanical principles, creating sneakers that facilitate natural foot movement rather than restricting it.
Each product incorporates three fundamental design characteristics: a completely flat sole eliminating heel elevation, an expanded toe box allowing unrestricted toe spread, and a flexible construction accommodating the foot’s thirty three joints. This design philosophy aligns with the growing global barefoot movement while maintaining contemporary aesthetic appeal.
Growth Strategy and Market Expansion
The newly acquired capital will support multiple strategic initiatives. RARA intends to strengthen its direct to consumer digital platform while simultaneously developing offline retail partnerships across the country. Manufacturing capacity expansion represents another priority, with the company maintaining its commitment to complete domestic production using locally sourced materials.
Currently, RARA’s inaugural collection remains exclusively available through its proprietary website. However, expansion plans for 2026 include partnerships with carefully selected multi brand retail outlets and experiential pop up installations in metropolitan areas.
Market Opportunity
Akshat Babbar from ChrysCapital emphasized the category’s potential, noting that barefoot footwear adoption accelerates once consumers experience the functional benefits. Prashant Tandon of Tata 1mg praised the founders’ combination of design innovation and operational capabilities, expressing confidence in their customer centric approach.
RARA Barefoot’s emergence reflects broader consumer interest in wellness oriented products and performance driven design, positioning the company to capture a significant share of India’s evolving footwear marketplace.
