Hyderabad-Based Megaliter Varunaa Raises ₹15 Crore in Seed Round for Circular Water Utility Expansion

India’s urban water crisis demands innovative solutions, and Megaliter Varunaa is answering the call with a groundbreaking approach to wastewater management. The Hyderabad-based startup has successfully raised ₹15 crore in seed funding from long term institutional investors, marking a significant milestone in its mission to revolutionize how cities handle water resources.

Operating as a subsidiary of Banka BioLoo Limited, Megaliter Varunaa has developed a distinctive business framework that addresses one of India’s most pressing environmental challenges. Their proprietary approach eliminates upfront capital expenditure requirements for clients while ensuring consistent, reliable wastewater treatment and recycling services through subscription based arrangements.

Transforming Infrastructure with Proven Impact

The company’s core innovation lies in transforming underperforming sewage treatment facilities into productive circular water utilities that serve urban communities. By assuming complete responsibility for financial investment, daily operations, and regulatory compliance, Megaliter Varunaa removes traditional barriers that have prevented effective wastewater management across Indian cities.

Vishal Murarka, the company’s Managing Director, emphasized the urgency of their work, stating, “This seed capital marks a pivotal milestone in our journey to meet India’s pressing need for sustainable water solutions. Our ongoing mission is to convert underutilised assets into efficient, compliant, and resilient urban water utilities.”

The startup has already demonstrated substantial impact. “To date, we have treated over 3 billion liters of wastewater, and our current capacity exceeds 2.5 billion liters annually,” Murarka noted. Their recycled water serves various non potable applications including toilet flushing, landscape irrigation, and cooling systems for buildings, demonstrating how wastewater can become a valuable resource rather than a disposal problem.

Scaling Toward Water Security

The fresh capital injection will fuel ambitious expansion plans. Murarka shared their growth vision: “In the next 12 months, we aim to build projects to recycle more than 10 billion liters annually, directly enhancing water resilience for cities and reducing freshwater dependency.”

Abhay Garg, Chief Mentor at Brigade REAP, highlighted the startup’s transformative potential: “Megaliter Varunaa exemplifies the kind of sustainable impact-driven innovation India urgently needs. Their model doesn’t just fix broken infrastructure, but rather reimagines it through a lens of circularity, reliability and climate resilience.”

Garg further explained their comprehensive support approach: “At Brigade REAP, our support goes beyond mentorship; we refine their go to market approach and align their innovation with real-world urban challenges. Our engagement with Megaliter has focused on helping them navigate complex stakeholder ecosystems, unlock scalable partnerships, and position wastewater as a viable utility service.”

As climate change intensifies water scarcity concerns, Megaliter Varunaa’s comprehensive solution offers a scalable pathway toward more resilient and sustainable urban water systems across India.
