The aerospace and defense industry witnessed a significant milestone on September 17, 2025, as Rolls Royce officially launched its most advanced Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Bengaluru. The expansive 700 seat facility represents the company’s largest operational hub worldwide, underscoring India’s strategic importance in global aerospace development.
Karnataka’s Large and Medium Industries Minister M.B. Patil presided over the inauguration ceremony, highlighting the state’s emergence as a premier destination for aerospace investments. The minister emphasized that Bengaluru now ranks among the world’s top three cities for aerospace investment, a testament to Karnataka’s business friendly policies and robust industrial ecosystem.
This development significantly amplifies Rolls Royce’s Indian operations, which currently employ over 2,000 skilled engineers, with the majority concentrated in Karnataka. The new facility demonstrates the company’s long term commitment to leveraging India’s exceptional technical talent pool and innovative capabilities in aerospace engineering.
India’s Growing GCC Landscape
The establishment of this GCC aligns perfectly with India’s remarkable trajectory in the global capability centre landscape. Industry projections indicate that GCCs will contribute approximately 3.5 percent to India’s Gross Domestic Product by 2030, while employment in this sector is expected to surge from 1.5 million professionals in 2020 to over 2.1 million by the end of 2025 across approximately 1,800 operational units.
This strategic expansion by Rolls Royce reflects the broader trend of multinational corporations establishing sophisticated research and development centers in India, moving beyond traditional outsourcing models to create high value engineering and innovation hubs that serve global operations.
