Quick commerce platform Zepto has launched Zepto Pharmacy, a new service offering 10 minute delivery of prescription medicines alongside over the counter drugs. The service is now operational in select areas of Mumbai, Bengaluru, Delhi NCR, and Hyderabad.
Strategic Healthcare Diversification
This launch represents a calculated expansion beyond Zepto’s traditional grocery and essentials delivery model. Following an extensive 12 month pilot phase, the company has refined its operational framework to accommodate the complex requirements of pharmaceutical distribution, including stringent regulatory compliance and specialized storage conditions.
CEO Aadit Palicha announced the launch via LinkedIn, stating: “Our objective is to keep operational standards extremely high and not scale too rapidly given the complexity of this category.” This measured rollout strategy reflects an understanding of the stringent regulatory requirements and operational challenges inherent in pharmaceutical distribution.
Intensifying Market Competition
Zepto’s entry occurs amid heightened competition in the instant medicine delivery sector. Rival platform Blinkit recently commenced testing prescription medicine deliveries in select Bengaluru localities, while established healthcare players including Tata 1mg have formed strategic partnerships with BigBasket and Apollo 24/7 to offer comparable rapid delivery services.
Operational Infrastructure Advantage
The company’s existing dark store network and proven logistics capabilities provide a competitive foundation for healthcare delivery. By leveraging established supply chain infrastructure, Zepto can address time critical medical needs while maintaining operational efficiency across metropolitan markets.
This healthcare expansion positions Zepto to capture market share in a sector where delivery speed directly correlates with customer urgency, potentially establishing a sustainable competitive advantage in India’s evolving quick commerce ecosystem.
